Inverness L’Arche Community

L’Arche Inverness is part of the world-wide federation of L’Arche communities founded by Jean Vanier in 1964, that aims to build community with people with learning disabilities. Our community is based in the capital of the Scottish Highlands and consists of 5 households where community members live together; those with learning disabilities and those who come as ‘assistants’, sharing in every aspect of daily living: shopping, cooking, celebrating, working and praying together. We are primarily a community comprising members representing various Christian traditions. We are also happy to welcome those of other faith traditions and none.
Assistants come from all over the world, some for a minimum of one year, others to make the Community their long-term home, including those who have families and live alongside community houses. We have 4 workshops - a woodcraft project, candle and craft making workshop, a small market garden and a project for those of retirement age. We offer an opportunity to engage in meaningful work to community members, and we sell our produce locally. We meet together regularly for community events to enjoy moments of laughter, or to share the deeper aspects of our common humanity. L’Arche involves a challenge to grow and develop, to learn new skills and to experience all that community implies.
