Blackcurrent
Blackcurrent is based in a Victorian town house near the middle of Northampton. There are two sides to the project: the resource centre and the community. Blackcurrent Centre provides meeting space, library, workshops, juggling club and film shows. The community lives alongside the Centre. Some people work full time outside of the community; others work part time, and everyone volunteers as much time as they choose to the running of the Centre. We also peddle a pedal-powered organic veg box delivery service.
All communal food is vegan and organic, and the house is a meat/fish/poultry free zone. We don’t keep pets or livestock. We heat the house with woodstoves run on salvaged wood. We have a garden and an allotment where we grow some of our own food, veganically. We have no communal TV, preferring to make our own music, play table tennis, and juggle.
We (generally) welcome visitors who would like to work with us, and charge £4 a day for food and a room. Ring or email before coming for our visitor information sheet.
