Canon Frome Court
The main house and stable block contain 19 leasehold self-contained living spaces of varying sizes, housing some 32 adults (age 31-90) and 21 children.
The community includes a meeting room for our weekly meetings (decision making is mostly by consensus); communal guest rooms; a dairy kitchen for making cheese, yoghurt and butter; a communal dining room for shared meals on Saturdays, holidays and other occasions and where we also host workshops (basket making, yoga, herbal medicine); the gym which is a huge hall, for parties, ceilidhs and singing and dance workshops; and a shop for wholefoods and chocolate.
There are communal workspaces for metal and woodwork. Our mixed farm of 40 acres supports a variety of animals — dairy and beef cattle, goats, sheep, chickens, and bees. The huge walled garden produces year-round veg from year round work, with some help from WWOOFers. Then there is the front lawn for picnics, barbecues and the children’s play area, a lake for boating and wildlife and even a swimming pool. We have recently installed a PV array to produce electricity and are in the early stages of installing a district biomass boiler. Canon Fromers like to work, rest and play!
