People needing People

Love Your Enemy

Looking for people with an appreciation of the ‘radical’ teaching of non-violence a la Jesus, Tolstoy and Gandhi. (Quakers, Anabaptist and Mennonites very welcome- even serious agnostics) The purpose of the community would not be ‘saving souls’ but ‘being the change we want to see in the world’

I am trying to establish meetings in the West Midlands, but willing to establish a community anywhere.

I’m up for suggestions, get in touch.

Over 50s Community/CoHousing

I am looking for like-minded ‘mature’ people (singles or couples) with some capital with a view to buying a property in rural North West (Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffs) or possibly North Wales.
I am 57 years and live in a small 2 up 2 down in North Staffs. I am unemployed/ semi retired and living off savings. Until 2 years ago I was living and working in a community in Devon. I enjoy some aspects of living alone but miss other aspects of ‘loose’ community living.
So the ideal would be living in a large house in the country with a combination of private and shared space. I am vegetarian and would idealy like to share with others who are also veggie.
I try to live as sustainably as possible - energy conservation, organic veg growing etc.
If the above sounds interesting and you would like to know more or explore further please send a message.
Thanks.

Orphaned by life, seeking family

I want to find some similar-minded people to form a ‘family’ and then make a home. For me, finding and building the family comes first. That way finding and making the home is a joint venture, a collective process that everyone is equally involved in and committed to.

At this time my thoughts are around trying to find a large property to buy rather than rent. I see that as preferable because it offers security and a degree of permanence and commitment. I would not have a huge amount of money if I sold my flat (most of it is owned by a bank) but I would have some – and my hope is that with pooled resources it might be possible. This ‘home-hunting’ stage will be some way off. The first stage has to be finding the people.

A bit about me: I’m female, 50, single – and of course lots of other things! For several reasons I want to stay around Brighton & Hove where I currently live. Not necessarily in the city, but close enough to commute for work (until such time it became possible for me to give that up!)

I have absolutely no pre-conceptions about who I would like to live with in terms of age, gender, sexuality, single people, couples, biological families, etc. What matters most is that people have the desire to connect and commit, share basic ideas about respect, relationships, how they would like to live together and so on. The kind of stuff you only find out about each other by spending time together and getting to know each other.

I don’t have a timescale, it will take as long as it takes, the most important part of the plan is building the firm human foundations. If you think you might be into making a start get in touch.

Brighton and Hove

Would you like to live in a creatively minded and nurturing house share in a lovely place?
Would you like to check in with your house mates once a week to share life experiences and to discuss any practical issues?
Would you like to cook a veggie meal once a week and have others cook for you?
Would you be happy without a flat-screen television being the focal point of the house?

If the answers are ‘yes’ then read on!

I have lived with others before in this way and it suits me - sharing with other mindful adults who live with others because they choose to. The property where I used to live is currently under long-term renovations, so I intend to re-create this style of living with new mates in a different property. There’s nothing vastly different to the normal houseshare; just that we check-in with each other once a week to let each other know about what’s going on for us, and we have a shared food system which makes financial sense and saves you a great deal of time as you cook approximately once a week and have a meal made for you most evenings.

So I’m looking for like-minded, stable and conscious adults to help make this happen by mid/late September. You should be mature and sympathetic to personal growth and creativity. I am looking for a spacious unfurnished 4 or 5 bed house (with at least 2 bathrooms but hopefully more) in a quiet street in the Hove area (with Aldrington/Poets Corner being the furthest away from town), for four or five people in total, depending on the space. I have seen suitable properties available for long-term let, so once others join me, it will be easy to make progress. You should be working or have a provable income or guarantor, as it will likely have to go through an estate agent. I estimate the rent including bills will be between £450-£550 per calendar month which would include a cleaner. This will be for a really nice place in the Hove area. The idea is that the house will run on a long-term basis.

About me - I’m 36 years old, spiritually minded and sane guy, currently working full time (shifts) with lots of projects on the go. I love to connect with others, like playing games, spending time in nature, philosophy, naturopathic medicine, hypnotherapy, comedy improvisation, performing, reading books and laughing as much as possible. I’m allergic to cats! Looking to connect with like-minded souls who are on the same wavelength.

If you are interested, you think you fit the bill and you feel that you have the energy and the money to do this and can commit for six months, or if you would just like to talk about it some more, please give me a call.

Many thanks

Looking for co-owners - Wales

Have some capital but not enough to make it happen. Is there another woman or family that would like to join me? Be interested to hear from you. Community in Spain

We are a couple in our 30s, looking for other couples, singles and families who would be interested in forming a small intentional community in southern Spain.

There’s no particular ideology in mind, just a group of easy-going people who care about people, animals and the planet, who believe that living as a communal/co-operative group is better than living separately.

No capital required, as we envisage finding somewhere to rent for at least a few years before we consider buying.

Ideas include growing our own food, generating our own energy, and enjoying the outdoor life that Spain is so suited to.

If this sounds interesting to you, please contact us.

A place to jointly buy.

I’m looking for a place to buy outright with someone else thereby avoiding a mortgage. It could be a self build? The ideal would be a place that has enough space where you can choose to be private or sociable with a shared (or otherwise) workshop for painting, woodwork, sewing or anything else. I have been told by a solicitor that there are ways of making this watertight so both or all parties feel secure ie. if one person wants to leave, dies! etc
I’m creative, reliable and considerate and used to work for the BBC as an assistant film editor and I can provide references. If you think you may be interested we could meet up and get to know each other first I’d be very interested to hear from anyone or for any ideas or relevant leads.

Creativity and Relaxation

Looking for anyone who might be interested in forming a community of creative artists, e.g., musicians, writers, poets etc, and especially people into all forms of yoga, meditation, crafts, pottery, woodworking, etc, permaculture, eco-friendly living and self sufficiency in food and fuel.

Looking for somewhere to rent, at first, in the South of England. This is not a spiritual or political community, just people who want to eventually live a self sufficient low-impact lifestyle. If not rural at first then urban or suburban with a community based business to save for a property of our own, as renting will be the initial option.

I am interested in speaking to other people who are interested in getting together to put forward their ideas and dreams for setting up a community. I am currently residing in the Midlands.

Hi Everyone Dom and Mirthful here.

Hope that this message finds you well and at least some of you ready to begin a new way of living with all of the excitement and uncertainty that this involves. We have found land in London and are now on the land.

Calling on all freemen/women that would like to live differently, be independent, take down interest based money and all acts (excepting those that support the common law), especially the 4000+ private acts of enclosure beginning in 1600s and being completed with the General Acts of Enclosure of 1836, 1840 and 1845.

The eco villages will be set up using the law of the land , establishing permaculture practices and harnessing the free energy available from suppressed technology, such as Nikola Tesla.

We would therefore like to invite you to become involved at any level and in any way you wish ie. in the swoop itself, building structures once we’re on, such as benders, cob structures, chicken coops, compost toilets, etc., outreach to the community, permaculture, planting, beekeeping etc., sharing your ideas, what you would like to see coming from this experience either for yourself or others.

We will be posting the meeting place and date of swoop very soon so keep in contact if you are interested. This is as well an open invitation to visit even if you cannot be there on the day of the swoop.
Please feel free to come on day of swoop even if you do not wish to stay living on the space.

Please if you are interested in any of the above leave your details on the facebook group FREEMAN ECO VILLAGE and the discussion board entitled, LONDON SWOOP on the group.

Looking for others to start a communal home in rural Scotland...

After several years living in Glasgow for work and university (and other stuff...), I’m really keen to move back to a rural area (I’m from Galloway originally) and find somewhere more settled, (self-) sustainable and homely to be. I’ve always been drawn the coast/ the isles ... Have only vague ideas at the moment so would be brilliant to meet up with others so we can work something out!

I’m inclined to politics (anarchist) rather than spirituality etc but am very open-minded about set-ups and would love to live with down-to-earth folk from any backgrounds/ ages/ families/ ideologies/ orientations/ ...

Hope to hear from you soon x

Hi - I am a young 35 single mum - my little boy is 2. I am quite the free spirit and love yoga and teach it too. I am also a holistic therapist. Love to sing. Was wondering: was there other single mothers who would like to share a house in Brighton. As it would be lovely for the children to have each others company. And for us too. I know how lonely it can be - bringing up a child alone - even in this vibrant city. I am a bubbly person - yet laid back. Look forward to hearing from other lovely mummys.

Young Family Seek the ‘Good LIfe’

We are a young family (30, 25 and 8 months) and for a long time we have felt the need for something more.
We want to begin a new life where we can be self-suficient as much as possible (Dad still wants to work). Baby wants a garden and mum wants to grow veg, keep animals, sew, bake and be outside!
We are not religious or spiritual, we simply want to live a happy, stress-free life together.
To make this possible we need somewhere to live (ideally in the West Country). We have a small amount of capital but not enough to achieve our dreams. Could you join us and make this work together?
Please contact me if you are a couple/young family who shares our dream and have a little to contribute too.
I look forward to hearing from you, warm wishes,
Hayley

Moonlight Meadows seeking land and members

We are a very small group (2, maybe 4) at the moment that would like to form an eco-village and historical/magical type community. We are not looking to drop out of society, but find a better, more fulfilling way to live. At the present we have no land and no money. We would like to find an old farm or manor to restore. Our principles involve sharing knowledge, skills and community activities. We would like to be involved in permaculture, going off grid, arts, especially theatre and dance and would aslo like to run a business. We both have skills and experience in all of these areas and would like to have a bookstore/brunch shoppe or even a B&B.

Part of our insipration for this is spiritual, but we would not have a required belief system. Our philosophy is pagan in nature, but with a wizarding twist. Yes, you read right and yes we are aware that this world doesn’t necessarily exist. But this is one of the reasons we wanted to build our own community. We would like a place where we bake our own bread, make our own clothes, grow our own food and are free to believe and act out whatever way of life we want.

As I mentioned, we have very little resources. In fact, we aren’t even British citizens, but we hope to rememdy that unfortunate mistake some day. So we are looking for like minded individuals who may have more resources than we do or property ready to be fixed up. Please send a message if this rings true for you.

Landsharing/ eco village in North Wales

Hi - a group of us are looking for people who are also interested in joining/ creating an eco village/ environmentally sustainable community of various ages, abilities and individualities in North/ Mid Wales.

We are looking at the possibility of creating communities of smaller groups within this eco-village, similar to Sieben Linden eco village in Germany, where communities with similar more specific ideals/ways of living live together (in separate ‘households’) in ‘neighbourhoods’, while still being part of the eco village community as a whole.

As a number of the group are vegans, at least one of these ‘neighbourhoods’ in the eco-village will be a vegan community with stock free organic food growing, and other neighbourhoods with common interests are being planned too.

We are also looking into how much freeconomy/ gift economy can be part of this eco village while still being part of the wider communities locally/nationally etc. too.

The group is open to discussion and ideas, especially at these formative stages, so there is the potential to have lot of input into this project now (as well as later on).

As well as contacting through Diggers and Dreamers, there is also a Facebook group called ‘eco village wales’ which has more information too.....

Thanks for reading :)

Macrobiotic & Natural Farming Commune & Retreat Centre Business

I am seeking macrobiotic people (wholefood vegans) to set up a co-housing commune with.

This project is for those who wish to live in accordance with Nature, which is the Macrobiotic Way. With several hectares of land in a warmer climate, we will gradually set up a Natural Farm, using the methods evolved by Masanobu Fukuoka. The long-term goal is to have a working macrobiotic farm & commune, where we not only grow all our own foods, but we process them too. Grain can become flour, seitan and syrup; soyabeans can become miso, shoyu, tempeh and tofu; we can dry, smoke, bottle and ferment etc.

Our land will include a wood & areas left wild for nature & beauty. Our lifestyle will be that of working the farm, processing foods, maintaining our structures, cooking, cleaning, socialising, and having plenty of free time for ourselves & our loved ones. For cash I would expect that we can sell foods & food products, as well as offer meals and accommodation for groups & individuals perhaps as a retreat centre. However, I hope that we can be self-sufficient in most things and live without needing much cash at all.

The reason I insist on members being macrobiotic is because too many people want to grow foods that are not beneficial to their own health nor that of the environment, including potatoes & other nightshade vegetables. These foods were not traditionally eaten as they were not seen as healthy, and they require more time, attention and materials to grow than other vegetables. They are more prone to disease and are not sustainable.

As I believe the economy is going to collapse at some point, and floods and fires will be on the increase due to global warming, I would like for us to be somewhere rural and well above sea-level. We will be self-sufficient in water, energy and fuel. To start with, I anticipate buying the land, and living in temporary shelter such as yurts. This way we can allow the time for observation of what the land is doing naturally, and therefore the knowledge of how best to design the site. Eventually, we can build eco-homes that will best suit the environment & the individuals living in them. We will have our own private homes and a central property that would include a professional macrobiotic kitchen, a communal dining area, guest bedrooms and a studio. We would cook and eat our meals together and share this space with paying guests and volunteers.

If you are interested in living a truly healthy and sustainable lifestyle without the need for money (eventually), and have capital to put towards buying land and building materials to get set up, then do contact me (I have approximately £50K cash to put in myself). Please do not contact me if it’s just to try and change my beliefs about the vices of potatoes! Thank you.

Eco-village Vegan Community

I have been 100% Ethical Vegan for over 20 years; I would like to create a strictly Vegan community, with others of a like-minded ethics, in either the North of England (i.e. Cumbria, or Borders), or Scotland, a Vegan community with no compromises. For people who value the integrity of their Vegan Ethics above everything else. Ideally, I would prefer it to be a Raw Vegan Community, or at least with an emphasis on raw foods. I am 100% Raw Vegan. The vision is of a Veganic land based, or at least Rural, project with either an existing habitable property; or, one with planning permission. The community would grow its own food employing permaculture methods, poly-tunnels and, hydroponics. I would prefer to see the establishment of ecological/environmentally sensitive buildings such as log cabins and the use of wind and solar power to generate electricity for the community needs. I am looking for people who could commit long term to the community, not part-timers. For those who are interested in this project contact me with your details, and if you are like me and value your Vegan principles above all else, then read on. If not then this project is not for you. I would also consider joining an existing Vegan community.

Eco Village

Couple in mid fifties starting an eco village/ cohousing project www.ecovillagelimited.com based on eco-friendly, sustainable living. Available capital: £400,000. We envisage the project would have a rural bias consisting of a communal facility with separate individual and family dwellings.
As individuals we bring a number of skills which enable us to contribute in being self-sufficient, growing/ raising our own food and living a more ecologically sustainable and low impact life. We wish to share with like-minded others skills, responsibilities, resources and the joy such an environment brings.
We have lived a fruitful and rewarding life and look upon this next stage with considerable enthusiasm. We have an open mind as to what may be possible and would be happy to discuss any existing or proposed eco village/ cohousing project.
If you would like to talk or meet with us please call Doyle and Carol on 0751 817788.

Biodynamic Farm in Dorset

We are Ian and Denise (www.HeritagePrime.co.uk) working on restoring an 80 acre farm. Much hedgerow work at present pulling out old fencing before building up and planting new and then onto planting an orchard.

Project Slovakia

Slovakia is an ideal place to start an eco-project. Land is cheap and there are four proper seasons.
Some friends and I wish to start a not-for-profit company which will aim to create a space for people from cities to escape to in order to re-connect with nature (hence themselves). We are working on extending our ideas at the moment. So we will give more details when we have them.
