We’re open to new members and looking for folk with an open mind who are interested in growing food, living as part of a collective and taking a bit of creative direct action to prevent climate crimes.
Can you help us put mud on the walls of our straw bale house? Cook a shared vegan dinner? Fix bikes? Welcome visitors with a tour and a tea? Reclaim waste food from supermarkets and wholesalers? Or just help us chat about how bad the government and corporations are?
Where have you been all our lives? Get involved!

Birchwood Hall Community
My name is Rosie, I used to live at Birchwood Hall Community and I moved away last year to take up a new job. I was really sad to leave as it’s an extraordinary place to live, for very un-extraordinary reasons. People are very genuine, respectful of each other’s space, and always ready to have fun. It was amazing to live in an environment with people who care about each other, and look out for each other in tricky times.
Everyone eats together in the evenings, and this is an important part of community life.
I miss the gentle mix of organisation and flux, the conversation, the laughs, the dry humour, the salad from the garden, but most of all the people.
Birchwood is a wonderful place to live, and there is currently room for more members. Please send an e-mail to tell them about yourself if you’re interested in living communally, and they’ll take it from there. The members living at Birchwood Hall will look forward to hearing from you.

Othona West Dorset
Stop Press! We have a vacancy for a new Core Member - Caterer from the beginning of December. This is a full time residential salaried post.
Alongside the common tasks we all share, you will be the main person looking after our kitchen cooking healthy meals for 4 - 40 people.
You’ll need some competence both in cooking and in running a kitchen (menu planning, ordering, food hygiene and so on). But just as important, you need the personal qualities to be well organised without being inflexible, to cope in changing circumstances without flapping, to work cheerfully in an unusual team. So emotional intelligence and an interest in people will need to underpin your technical skills.
For more details, please email Juliet - email@example.com
We have shortlisted for Core Member - Housekeeper and expect to appoint from this group in October 2013.
Thank you for the high level of interest in being our Core Member - Housekeeper. Until we appoint you are welcome to start the recruitment process, but please bear in mind that while we will acknowledge your interest we will only proceed with your application if we don’t appoint in the current round.
Further details are on our website www.othona-bb.org.uk or by email:
Note: the recruitment process can take several months to complete.
