Places needing Volunteers
Monkton Wyld Court
We have year-round volunteer programme, through which you can experience communal living and learn new skills, while helping us to run this centre.
You can expect to join in with cooking, cleaning, gardening, office administration and maintenance. We especially welcome people with practical skills such as building, plumbing, electrics, gardening and cooking.
Please note that we can get many applications to volunteer, particularly in summer so do book in advance. An initial visit would be for one week.
For more info, go to our website or contact the volunteer co-ordinator.

Trelay
We ask volunteers to work 4 hours a day, and charge a basic rate of £7 per day (or £49 per week with 2 days off), in return for a bed, communal evening meal and self-serve breakfast and lunch. You may be allocated a bed in a caravan or in our camping barn, which provides comfortable mattresses with privacy screens. There is varied work here depending on the weather and time of year, ranging from caring for the veggie patch and animals, to painting and decorating, building work, and site clearance. You can join in fun community activities, too.
We offer a week’s stay to start with, followed by a review; if all goes well and you wish to stay longer, we may extend this to a month. (Your time working with us will be limited to a month unless you wish to join our community.)
We encourage you to come by public transport, and can offer lifts from Bude, our nearest small town; ask us about buses to Bude. Exeter is our nearest train station.
For further information or to book, please contact Margot on margot.oakenby@gmail.com or leave a message on 01840 230 423

Iona Community
The Iona Community welcomes volunteers at all of its three centres - on Iona the Abbey and the Macleod Centre and on Mull the Camas centre. At the two Iona centres volunteer work revolves around a particular role such as working in the kitchen, maintenance department or housekeeping and community life is framed by worship in the Abbey. At Camas the focus is supporting the development of young people from disenfranchised backgrounds on week long residentials. The work is holistic and may include helping on outdoor activity sessions, cooking, maintenance, gardening and just listening to guests. The Camas day is framed by reflections that explore individuals experience of the day and in the context of their lives.
Volunteer work at all centres is intense, challenging and deeply satisfying. To apply visit the recruitment pages on the Iona Community website and complete an application form.
