Female housemate wanted
I live in a large, family style communal household in N5. We are losing one of our people and we’re all scouting about for potential replacements. We specifically want a woman, and lesbian women very welcome. It’s a large house with much shared communal space and obviously private rooms. We pool our resources and skills and pay rent and kitty money on a sliding scale, according to our professional circumstances, which range from doctors, musicians, sound engineers, teachers, computer geeks... It’s creative and sort of anarchistic, mixed in terms of age, nationality, sexuality. More women and more lesbian/bi women for sure are welcome so I’m posting it up here. Any potential takers have to be cool with living in a mixed, lively, politically conscious environment - which is integral to the surrounding neighbourhood and also with a blind person. Keen cyclists very welcome and people who want to live sustainably, compost consciously. Nice garden. Not a vegetarian household. Excellent bus and transport connections.
If you think this sounds like you, then please get in touch.

People wanted for huge country manor share
Beautiful Rural Manor House-share in Sussex.
We are in the process of renting a very large country house, with around 1.5 acres, surrounded by lovely woodland, in sussex about 8 miles from the coastal town of Hastings; it is 45 miles south of London, the train station is only 1.4miles away - 1hour 20 mins to London stations.
The property has over 5000 feet of living space, 2 kitchens, 2 staircases and a vaulted ball room!
We are a family of 4 (ranging in age from 11 to 72) who would like to share the property with another family or 2/3 individuals.
The rent will depend on the number of bedrooms occupied but is likely to be around £300pcm for a double room and around £55pcm per person for all bills.
There is lots of scope for land-based activity – organic veg beds, bee keeping etc it could be run as a communal smallholding.
We hope to take possession at the end of August but anytime before October is fine for others.

Possible Kent
A typical 70s chalet which could be converted to a 5-7 bed Kentish clad property, to be well-insulated, with low-tech solar. It’s set in 2 acres with an outbuilding. I’m willing to share with equitable rent, and am open to suggestions on how to achieve this, based on trust. I have dabbled with Pilsdon, Glastonbury, Cmdu Hilfield North Scotland. I have a deep interest in affordable photovoltaics and water harvesting. I’m not religious or racist or into anything which divides humanity. I love music, literature and art, but am very pragmatic.

Space to live and grow
We are an informal community, living in ten 1 bed/studio self contained apartments in a large country house. We share an ethos of low impact living, love of the outdoors, an interest in the arts and self sufficiency and sharing as much or as little time with each other as we wish.
The house has provided a community role for over 35 years and we are currently looking for new residential members on a short or long term basis. To keep the rents as low as possible we share some of the maintenance but this is not onerous.
We are Staffordshire based. If you are thinking of changing your life we can offer the space to try new things out and the peace to relax into.
We would love to hear from you IF YOU ARE READY TO MOVE NOW, subject to meeting us and references.
The configuration of the units means that they are not really suitable for children. We are bird lovers and have a no cat policy and the layout of the house means it is not really suitable for dogs.

Interested in Romania ?
Hello to all,
We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children) looking for people to share the purchase of some beautiful land we found in Romania.
Last summer I’ve been in region together with my family and found it an idyllic place to live with very helpful people, superb surroundings and good infrastructure as well. Because we’re charmed by the place, we asked around and found a piece of land of more than 20 thousand square meters flat terrain, touched on one side by a small river and forest, at ~ 1 km away from an European Road and ~ 17 km from city of Hateg, capital of the region.
Because it’s too expensive for us, we’re looking for some other families, preferably with kids, if interested to buy this piece of land and to found a small eco community.
The land can be seen here: http://picasaweb.google.com/minimicrorc/Ferma#slideshow/
Features are:
- South west of Transylvania, at the entrance of Retezat Mountains, which are part of National Retezat Park (http://retezat.ro/index.php/english/about-the-park.html ), part of http://www.panparks.org/visit/our_parks/retezat_national_park . More resources can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retezat_National_Park
- 17 km away from the small city of Hateg, on a nice road
- the land have an old construction, more than 100 years, now... just ruins
- the land is perfectly flat, with a beautiful river alongside (for about 148 meters) the property has a small forest
- looking at hydro turbine, etc..
- fertile land
- people need to be organic minded, no chemicals and pollution.
- organic orchard with apple trees, nuts, plums etc. already on the land
- spectacular views over the Retezat Mountains
- all day sun
- power, phone, internet available, must be installed
- spring water already available at the premises
- 5.32 acres – 2.152 ha
- 75,000 Euro for the whole lot but can be purchased in plots of 5,000 sqm for 3,5 Euro / sqm
- we’re not developers and not looking at making money
- Agrotourism, camping, tourist farm, guest house, trout fishing pond etc…endless possibilities for sustainable living, we can talk about that
For those of you interested, please feel free to contact me on my email: redteamracing@yahoo.com
Looking forward to hear from you!

Creative Community in the Lake District
Formerly a temperance house built by the Quakers, Fell House sits in the beautiful Eden Valley within 1 mile of the Lake District National Park.
This is a house based community. For us the power of the community is paramount and it is only as a group that we can hope to effect a change in our own lives and in the lives of others who desire it. Resident with us at the moment are poets, musicians, ex IT consultant, builder and youth worker.
Our secondary aim is to make this house as self sufficient as possible and to make it a place where people can truly grow; reinvigorate and help to educate the predominant failing societal constructs in the ways of harmonious eco living.
With our ex IT consultant putting together a website incorporating a THINK TANK we hope to challenge common concepts.
Our third aim is to take the community and showcase ourselves in halls countrywide. For us an exploration of self can only be furthered by a sharing of self with others. For an idea of what we do in the halls please have a look at
www.myspace.com/cougarsband
The house itself has a total of 8 large bedrooms with a further 3 lounge rooms one which is used as a music room, a large attic and a cellar. Our house sharers means of assisting the house rental upkeep are varied; ranging from housing benefit to privately paid. Because we are a community we do intend to accept passing house sharers on a work for rent policy as approved by the community.
We are extremely excited about the future and we are looking for additional house sharers to join us.

Very large property coastal West Wales
Overlooking the sea with stunning views, this house is currently split into 6 self-contained units, but could easily be one very large house or some other configuration. It has one acre south facing gardens, with organic veg beds, its own spring water, solar panels and is in a Nature Conservation Area. It is all decorated with natural paints and varnishes, currently has one 3-bed, one 2-bed, and three studio flats. It also has a large communal room with another kitchen, 2 further rooms plus laundry room and cellar. There is also a large octagonal double glazed and insulated building on the land. The house is easily reachable by public transport. A fantastic opportunity for a small community.
The property is available as a whole to buy by an individual or established co-op/co-housing group/community etc. The price is being finalised very shortly. See www.healing-retreats.co.uk for full details and lots of photos. Or just email me for more information

Off grid in Spain
1 hectare of forest garden (many many different fruit and nut trees) with abundant water (land remains green all year), currently siting newly refurbished 5 bedroom stone house (permission to extend) and 6m yurt, stables and other animal accomodation. 1kW solar pv, vacuum tube hotwater, wood fuelled central heating (and plenty of wood to burn).
A beautiful spot for a ready-made self sufficient life. Suit up to 5 couples as co-housing (more if yurts etc erected or stable converted). Surrounded by unused land, that could be bought cheaply in addition.
180,000 GBP
***EDITED*** We are now considering splitting the house into two 2 bedroom houses with 50% share in the land, priced accordingly.

Senior(ish) Cohousing Community
Myself and my husband are in our early fifties, and live on a 5 acre rural smallholding with a huge greenhouse (over 2 acres!) near Selby in Yorkshire. We grow strawberries and tomatoes which we sell to local farm shops, box schemes and at farmers’ markets. My husband works full time on the smallholding, whilst I have a full time job and help out at evenings and weekends.
However, there’s just too much work for two of us, so we are looking for like-minded people who are passionate about great-tasting food, who care about the environment and would jump at the chance of living in the countryside.
If you’d like to come and join us, please get in touch!
We would like to form a low impact co-housing community, with around 6-10 single storey eco-cabins, plus communal facilities which we can all share. This would involve taking some of the greenhouse down, but keeping some for continuing to grow our strawberries/tomatoes, plus food for the rest of the community. Ideally the community would be off-grid, and sustainable; we are keen to explore alternative energy solutions and install a communal PV system, for example. We think this would be of particular interest to couples whose children have grown up and left home, who are looking to downsize – get rid of the overheads of a large, empty house, have a better lifestyle and spend your money on having fun instead!
Please drop me an email if you would like to join us – we look forward to hearing from you! UPDATE as at 9 August 2010: we are now in the process of completing the purchase of our land, so should soon be in a position to move forward!!
