Earthworm Housing Co-op

Over the last 12 months, Earthworm Housing Co-op has taken significant steps to restore itself as a beacon of light in a post peak oil world. Its gardens are once more full of food, there is a productive energy, electricity is from the wind and sun, buildings are being insulated, a low impact kitchen is being developed (presently we have a big rocket stove, homemade solar water heater, ex-fridge slow cooker, a cob oven-rocket stove range, clay oven and storm kettles), the lodge (run down for over 18 years) is being restored in a low impact way, the wetland system is functioning again, we’ve made four more compost loos and the land is once more being managed with a veganic-permaculture-forest garden-organic approach. Recently, we have set up a car pool and we are working towards cycle power, public & collective transport as we fade out personal car use. Earthworm has hosted a range of gatherings over this summer as well as the Intercommunity Volleyball Tournament. If you’ve not already heard, Earthworm are now the reigning champions!!! Resources for kids include trampolines, kids’ playroom, a tree house, climbing nets, bikes, swings, a slide & see-saw - oh and seven acres of green space to play in! The Earthwize 12V trailer is based at Earthworm, providing 1Kw of solar & 1Kw of wind power, providing mains power for the community, a cinema & soundsystem. The trailer is available to support local, green-conscious events.

Visitors & wwoofers who are committed to living in a positive & low impact way and who support the ideals of Earthworm are welcome. Initial contact is requested through email or letter for discussion at the weekly co-op meeting. All visitors and members are asked for a daily contribution of £3.50 towards the ever-rising cost of food & bills. Dogs with responsible owners are welcome.
