Monkton Wyld Court
Monkton Wyld Court, an educational charity and company limited by guarantee, is run by a self-managing community with the help of short- and medium-term volunteers. Our vision is to provide an educational centre for sustainable living, a demonstration site and teaching resource from the interpersonal to the international level. We strive to maximise the productivity and the social benefits of the land and other resources, at the same time fostering environmental diversity and richness.
The Court itself is a fourteen-bedroom Victorian rectory built in the neo-Gothic style, with a converted stableblock, a strawbale hut and other various outbuildings. The eleven acres of grounds include an organically managed Victorian walled kitchen garden, terraced lawns, woods, an orchard and fields leading down to a stream. Facilities such as a well-stocked library, art hut, pottery, workshop, healing room and sitting room with baby grand piano may be made available to visitors and guests by previous arrangement.
We generate income through a programme of educational courses, family activity holidays, other events and B&B. Volunteers contribute time to our gardens, kitchen, grounds, house and office for a week at a time in return for food, lodging and a taste of communal living. We also offer meeting and outdoor space at accessible rates for educational projects and programmes.
