We are an intentional community focused around a farming cooperative in rural Herefordshire. We are made up of a main house, stable block and some detached places that provide 20 self-contained living spaces of varying sizes most of which are leasehold but we also support different models including shared ownership & renting. Together we number about 30 adults and a dozen kids that range from babes in arms to wise seventy year olds. We make our decisions by consensus in our regular meetings, and make much of our food based on our hard labour and good times in the gardens, pollys or fields. We eat together weekly and are fortunate to have the facilities to host public events to share the place with, amongst others, artists, basket weavers, pilates classes and music lovers utilising the various spaces and rooms we share. There are communal workspaces for making do and mend. Our 40 acres mixed farm follows organic principles in raising a variety of animals including dairy and beef cattle, goats, sheep and chickens. The large walled garden produces year-round veg from year round work, with some help from volunteers. We enjoy the space we have for picnics, parties, (kids) play areas and even a swimming pool and lake. We aim to tread lightly on the earth with our district biomass heating system supplying most of our heat and hot water, PV providing about a third of our electricity requirements and our ever growing car pool minimising our carbon impact further. Canon Fromers like to work, rest and play!
