Green Wood is a housing cooperative that bought its house in 2019. Some of the current group are the original members who formed and developed it together. We’re still in the early stages, so some parts of the house are lovely and other bits of the house need some work doing to them to get things looking and feeling warm and homely.

We have a 4-floored house accessed by steps at the front and back doors, with a sun-dappled kitchen-diner, garage, 6 bedrooms, plans (with funding) to convert the existing basement into a living room, and a design to join gardens with our neighbours – veg, fruit trees, insulated bath. So far we’ve done loft insulation, decorated rooms, run events to empower people to start coops, built beds and shelves, sanded floors, kept on top of our finances and had a party… Generally we live together; hang out, play games, sing, cook and eat together, craft, yoga, support each other, and have meetings.

Green Wood Housing Co-operative is currently looking for new members

The room available is on the first floor, faces south and has a double bed plus plenty of floor space. The room is available from the 1st of March. Currently, we don’t have enough space to accommodate a couple or children. Rent is £298 a month including council tax and we each contribute £150 per month which covers food and bills. We would like membership to be accessible so if this is not affordable for you, please still apply and we will consider making suitable adaptations.

We’re looking for someone who:
wants to live communally and enjoys the company of others
enjoys taking care of their home (and housemates)
Is aware of their needs and sensitive to those of others
Is willing to engage in group reflection; giving and receiving feedback
has the potential to work and communicate well in a co-operative working environment
can be relied upon to put time and energy into the coop (inc. admin and practical work)
is (or intends to be) rooted in Leeds
and is nice to be around :)
If you’re interested, email and we’ll send through an application pack with more information about the co-op and some questions to answer so you can tell us a bit about yourself.

Application Deadline: 14th February 2021

We will aim to contact applicants between the 14th February and 11th March to let you know if we’d like to take your application further. If so, we’ll arrange a phone call and possibly a meet up (CV19 dependent….). The room is available from early March and we’re looking for someone who can move in by mid April at the latest.
