We are a diverse urban community and currently have spaces available for new members.
We welcome people from all walks of life and would love to attract people with practical skills, as well as those with a head for figures.
The community was founded in 1981 to be a stable and secure home. It occupies two large semi-detached Victorian houses, with communal garden, in a quiet road in East London. Over thirty years later the community is still going strong.
Our main commitments are to communal living and working by consensus. We are vegetarian and non-smoking at home, though some are non-veggie out of the home and smoke outside in the garden.
Our legal status is as a fully mutual housing co-op, and we make all decisions by consensus at monthly business meetings.
Current members work and study full and part time, mainly in people-orientated positions within charities, mediation, healthcare, psychotherapy, eduacation, personal, professional and community development, and theatre.
Some of us enjoy performing, theatre and cinema going, campaigning, keeping fit, lighting fires, travel, taking care of our beautiful home and garden.
We have no defined ideological focus but could loosely be described as greenish, leftish and feminist. The core values that are particularly important to us are: equality, integrity, respect, heart, fun, love, cooperation & consensus, supportive & caring, ethically engaged, honest communication, self-awareness, continuity, leftish, environmentally aware & sustainable, being the change, communal & sharing.
It takes time to join and settle in, and we aim to be fairly stable, so we ask all new members to stay for a minimum of two years.
If we sound like the kind of community that you might like to join, do get in touch.
