We have no real shared ideology, though we hold vaguely similar attitudes in terms of environment, social justice, politics etcetera. The co-op was originally set up to accommodate people on low income in a traditionally wealthy area. Ploughshare Housing Co-op is based in a Victorian terraced house with small gardens to front and rear. It is in a quiet street in the heart of Bruntsfield, close to the Meadows and a short walk from the centre of Edinburgh. Members of our Co-op, eight in total (at capacity, four men and four women, plus one cat) are both tenants and directors of the limited company that owns the building – we have no landlord. We also have no right to the proceeds if the co-op is wound-up. We have a organic box scheme, a ethical milkman and bulk-buy food for communal evening vegetarian meals from Green City.
