Work in Lieu

After over 20 successful years as a small family and land-based community, we officially dismantled some of our communal activities four years ago. However, the four founders still carry on in much the same way as before, sharing spiritual, political and social values. We continue to work together one day a week, maintaining the property and socialising. There are two caravans on the site, a garden room, and a room in one of our houses where single people live, sharing a large communal kitchen and living space. They each live independently, having community interactions as they choose. There is also a three bedroomed semi-independant unit (half of the original farm house), which will soon be available. We would like to offer this to a couple or small family who would be interested in a semi-comunal life, sharing the maintenance and produce of the gardens, the beautiful environment and location, along with informal social connections. Each person living at Woodhead needs to be self financing.
We continue to maintain the property of around 2 acres, providing an abundance of vegetables, fruit, flowers and trees. We have Wwoofers come to work with us, sharing their lives and varied cultures. The founding couples continue to eat together twice a week and maintain the car pool which runs very successfully.
The Findhorn Foundation and its associated wider community is just down the road from us. Its vibrant, international population provides a rich source of inspiration, friendship and culture for us to engage with.

Woodhead Community is currently looking for new members

Woodhead has been a community for almost thirty years but in the last few of years has relaxed into a more cohousing style of living. The two founding couples continue routines that have been established over the years, such as sharing the gardens and cars. Other people living on the property lead a more independent life, but they still very much enrich the ‘feel’ of Woodhead.

Soon – probably from October 2020 – we will have a three bedroomed home available for rent. Our preference would be a couple or a small family, sharing the maintenance and produce of the gardens, the beautiful environment and location, along with informal social connections.

The accommodation available is one half of the original farmhouse. It has three bedrooms, two double and one smaller room adjoining the sitting room, (which could be used for other purposes if desired), a large kitchen-sittingroom, and a work room. There is a shower and two toilets which would be for your primary use, but would be occasionally used by the couple living in the other end of the house. In that half there is another bathroom, primarily for their use but also available for occasional use by yourselves. There is also a scullery, containing a washing machine, freezer and ironing fascilities for shared use. The house is furnished and is primarily heated by a wood burning stove with a water-jacket that runs a central heating system. We have a large supply of cut and dried timber ready for use, but this still requires more work and awareness than turning on a switch!

Woodhead is situated in a great location, four miles from the town of Forres, two from the village of Findhorn as well as the Findhorn Foundation. Kinloss is one mile away, where shops, a pub and garage are all available. Woodhead itself is a two acre property with two main houses and outbuildings, surounded by farmed fields.
